Building a canoe in a weekend

Can you build a canoe in a weekend ???

To build a 15'6" family sized Canadian canoe, as featured at the top of the home page of this website will cost £400, including use of a simple caravan, or space to camp in the garden, for the whole family.

( There are 3 caravans, which will be allocated when deposits are paid.  There is also a home-built wooden cabin which is available occasionally. We have workshop space for up to 2 families to make a canoe at once.

As you will have seen from the photographs, we encourage children to be involved with all stages of design and construction of their canoes. All use of power tools etc must be closely supervised. There is plenty of scope for children to play ( tree den, wooden castle, swings, open field) when they get bored during the fiddly stages of the construction of their boat.

In our experience these weekends are an opportunity for parents and children to enjoy collaborating on a project with a clear end in view (launching your own canoe on the Sunday), but it is also evident that parents will be at least as excited, and have considerably more stamina in getting the work done, so don't feel bad about it if your offspring needs time away from the workshop during the weekend !

Food will be "Bring and Share". We don't plan it, it just happens ! You will have access to the kitchen whenever your like ( especially when the washing up is due !!)

Please note: Brooksby Station House is located by a busy railway line ( all fenced off) and a quiet river ( not all fenced off). Children will need to be supervised at all times. However,we can make as much noise as we like, as we have no near neighbours.

Do ring and ask if you have any further questions
